LED Upgrade Questions
Do I replace the fixture or just the lamps?
A compatible lamp may reuse existing equipment. A conversion kit modifies the fixture, while a new fixture replaces it. A ballast, the component that regulates power for a fluorescent lamp, affects compatibility. Wiring changes require qualified installation.
Will the light look different?
It can. Light output, distribution, color appearance, and glare vary by product. Review a sample or a small area before selecting equipment for a larger space.
Are rebates available?
Programs and product eligibility change. Check the current program rules, any preapproval requirement, and the exact equipment before purchasing. The proposal should not assume a rebate that has not been confirmed.
What is Title 24?
Title 24 is the California Building Standards Code. Its energy provisions are in Part 6. Requirements for a lighting alteration depend on the building and scope; a single fixture-percentage rule does not describe every project.
How do you estimate energy savings?
Calculate the reduction in input watts, multiply by annual operating hours, divide by 1,000, then multiply by the electricity price per kilowatt-hour. Use verified equipment data and your rate. That estimates lighting energy savings, not the entire bill or project payback.
Can installation be staged around business hours?
We can discuss work zones and access windows. Some circuits will need to be off, so the schedule and any after-hours charges must be agreed before installation.
How long will the new fixtures last?
Life ratings and warranty terms vary by model and operating conditions. Keep the selected product documentation; an advertised life rating is not a promise that every component will last that long.
