Backup Power Solutions

What We Install & Service

From whole-home standby generators to manual transfer switches for portable units — we size, install, permit, and maintain your backup power system.

Whole-Home Standby Generators

Whole-Home Standby Generators

Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton — permanently installed, natural gas or propane fueled, automatic startup within 10 seconds of a power loss. No manual intervention needed.

Automatic Transfer Switches

Automatic Transfer Switches

ATS safely disconnects your home from the grid and transfers to generator power. Required by NEC for all standby generators. We install and wire to your main panel.

Manual Transfer Switches

Manual Transfer Switches

Budget-friendly option for portable generators. Lets you safely connect a portable unit without back-feeding the grid — which is illegal and dangerous to utility workers.

Load Management Panels

Load Management Panels

Prioritize which circuits get power during an outage: refrigerator, lights, HVAC, medical equipment first. Allows a smaller generator to handle your critical loads.

PG&E PSPS Preparedness

PG&E PSPS Preparedness

Public Safety Power Shutoffs can last days. A standby generator keeps your food cold, security system active, and family comfortable through every planned outage.

Generator Maintenance

Generator Maintenance

Annual oil change, filter replacement, battery check, and load test. Most units run weekly self-tests automatically, but hands-on service keeps them ready when it counts.

Our Process

Quote to Power-On

From load calculation to city inspection — one crew, one schedule, fully permitted.

1

Load Calculation

We inspect your electrical system, calculate every load, and recommend the right generator size. Oversizing wastes money; undersizing leaves you short.

2

Permits & Pad Prep

We pull electrical and mechanical permits, pour or place the concrete pad, and coordinate the gas line with a licensed plumber.

3

Install & Connect

Transfer switch installed, conduit run, wired to your main panel. Gas line connected by our plumbing partner. Entire system tested under full load.

4

Startup & Inspection

Full load test, automatic transfer test, weekly self-test programmed. City inspection and all paperwork handed over.

The Fox Difference

Why Fox for Generators

Proper Load Calculation

We calculate every circuit — not guess. Right-sized generator means reliable backup without overspending on capacity you'll never use.

Full Permit Handling

Electrical and mechanical permits pulled, inspections scheduled, closeouts filed. You deal with us, not the city building department.

Gas Line Coordination

We work with licensed plumbers for the gas connection — one project, one schedule. You don't have to find or manage a second contractor.

PSPS-Ready

PG&E shutoffs can last 2-5 days. Your standby generator starts in 10 seconds and runs until grid power returns — no manual steps, no extension cords.

132 Five-Star Reviews

Bay Area homeowners rate us 5.0 on Google. We earn that rating on every project, not just the easy ones.

12-Month Warranty

Full workmanship warranty plus manufacturer coverage on the generator itself. If anything traces back to our installation, we fix it free.

FAQ

Generator Questions

What size generator do I need?

For essential circuits (lights, fridge, outlets, garage door): 10-14 kW. For whole-home coverage including AC and electric range: 20-24 kW. We do a detailed load calculation during the on-site assessment so you get exactly the right size.

How loud is a standby generator?

Modern units run at 60-70 decibels — about as loud as a normal conversation. Older models were significantly louder. All equipment we install meets local noise ordinances.

Does a generator need regular maintenance?

Yes — annual oil and filter change plus battery check. Most modern generators run automatic weekly self-tests. We offer maintenance plans so you never have to think about it.

Is the gas line included in the price?

Our prices include the generator, transfer switch, concrete pad, all electrical work, and permits. The gas line from a licensed plumber is billed separately — we coordinate that work for you so you deal with one schedule.

How fast does the generator start during an outage?

Standby generators with automatic transfer switches start within 10 seconds of detecting a power loss. By the time you notice the lights flicker, power is already restored from the generator.

Can I install a generator if I have solar panels?

Yes, but it requires proper integration. The transfer switch must be configured to work with your solar inverter. We handle the wiring so both systems coexist safely and per code.

Do I need a permit for a generator?

Yes — both electrical and mechanical permits are required in most Bay Area jurisdictions. We pull all permits, schedule inspections, and close them out. The permit fees are included in your quote.

What's the warranty?

Our workmanship is warranted for 12 months. Generac and Kohler offer 5-year limited warranties on residential units, with extended coverage available. We provide all warranty documentation at project completion.
