Eight categories of lighting work — from a single chandelier swap to a whole-home layered design.
Recessed Lighting
New recessed cans cut into ceilings — kitchens, hallways, living rooms. Dimmable, IC-rated, with proper insulation contact ratings.
Pendant + Chandeliers
Statement pendants, glass-bubble chandeliers, kitchen island fixtures. Proper boxes, dedicated dimmer circuits, level mounting.
Under-Cabinet Lighting
Kitchen task lighting under upper cabinets. LED strip or puck, wired with switched outlet or smart toggle.
Outdoor + Landscape
Path lights, deck lights, uplighting, string lights with weatherproof transformers and outlets. Dusk-to-dawn timers.
Accent + Cove Lighting
LED strip in coffered ceilings, cove lighting in tray ceilings, behind-TV bias lighting. Subtle ambient layers.
Dimmer Systems
Lutron Caseta, Maestro, and pro-grade Lutron HomeWorks. Multi-location dimming, scene control, voice integration.
LED Retrofits
Replace fluorescent or halogen with LED. 70% energy savings, much longer life, PG&E rebate eligible.
Lighting Design
Full room or whole-home lighting plans. Layered general + task + accent lighting with proper Kelvin temperature.

Why Fox for Lighting
Layered Design Approach
General + task + accent lighting layered properly. A well-lit room feels alive at any time of day, not just "lights on" flat overhead.
LED + Smart Dimmer Ready
Every install uses LED-rated dimmers (no buzz, no flicker), and we can pre-wire for smart control if you want Lutron Caseta later.
Color Temperature Discipline
Warm 2700K in living areas, neutral 3000K in kitchens, no mixing within one zone. Cohesive feel throughout the home.
Designer-Friendly
We work alongside interior designers, architects, and decorators. We handle electrical code; you/they handle the look.
Outdoor + Landscape
Path lighting, deck wash, uplighting, string lights — weatherproof transformers, GFCI protection, dusk-to-dawn smart control.
PG&E Rebate-Eligible
LED retrofits and Title 24 lighting upgrades qualify for PG&E utility rebates. We install to spec and provide paperwork.
Lighting Questions
How much does recessed lighting cost?
Bay Area recessed lighting: roughly $150-$250 per can installed including fixture, drywall cut, wiring, and dimmer share. A typical 6-can kitchen retrofit lands $1,000-$1,800. Layered designs (general + task + accent) cost more but feel dramatically better.
Can I install LED bulbs in old fixtures?
Yes — most modern LED bulbs are A19/PAR compatible and work in existing fixtures. For dimmable LEDs you need LED-rated dimmers (most pre-2015 dimmers buzz or flicker with LEDs). We swap dimmers as part of the retrofit.
What color temperature should I pick?
For living areas: 2700-3000K (warm, like incandescent). Kitchens and bathrooms: 3000-4000K (neutral, better for tasks). Garages and workshops: 4000-5000K (cool, energetic). Mixing temperatures in one room looks bad — we standardize per zone.
Do you do landscape lighting?
Yes — path lights, uplighting, accent lighting, weatherproof string lights for patios and pergolas. Low-voltage transformers with dusk-to-dawn timers or smart-app control. We trench, run conduit, and handle GFCI protection.
Can you match the existing finish on switches and fixtures?
Absolutely. Bring us a sample plate or fixture, or we can pull catalogs for matching finishes — Lutron, Leviton, Schoolhouse, Rejuvenation, all available.
How long does a lighting project take?
Small projects (3-4 fixtures, 1 dimmer swap): same day. Whole-room redesign (recessed + pendants + dimmers): 1-2 days. Whole-house lighting plan: 4-7 days depending on complexity.
Can you work with my interior designer?
Often that's the best dynamic. The designer picks fixtures and finishes, we handle electrical layout and code compliance. We've worked alongside Bay Area designers on dozens of projects.
