Not always, but it is the first thing we check. Many older Crescent Park and Old Palo Alto homes still run a 100-amp service, which can be tight once a charger is added. If you are also planning a heat pump, upgrading the panel once usually makes more sense than doing it twice.
Can you install a charger in an Eichler garage without an attic to run wire through?
Yes. Eichlers sit on a slab with post-and-beam ceilings, so there is no attic to fish through. We route the dedicated 240-volt circuit along walls and the slab edge instead, and the exterior panel location on most Eichlers actually makes the garage run fairly direct.
